Forum Theatre for Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership

We delivered a creative commission for the Climate and Disability programme for the Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership as part of the Bristol Community Climate & Nature Action project. We ran a Forum Theatre workshop to support local Disabled people to explore the barriers to buses in Bristol and worked with a filmographer to produce a film that could be used for advocacy work.

Festival of Nature

Emma delivered a series of accessible nature connection events for Disabled people as part of Bristol’s Festival of Nature. This included in person workshops, online workshops and some online ‘virtual walks’. The Natural History Consortium included some learnings from this series in their Engagement Toolkit. The video of the online walk below was followed by a craft session using leaves picked up on the walk and posted to participants.

Sparks Residency

September 2023 to February 2024, Emma had an artist-in-residency at the climate centre Sparks to explore how creativity can be used to support climate action.

Events included:

  • Utopian storytelling to imagine Bristol as a nature utopia,
  • Forum theatre on justice transition for Disabled people,
  • Creative writing exercises to support people to find the best climate action for them,
  • Experimenting with creative theories to support powerful climate protests,
  • Using improv to imagine different climate futures.

Most of these events were collaborative and Emma is very grateful to Alice Tatton-Brown, James Ward, Rachel Moffat, Caro New, and Kierann Shah for their time, energy and brilliance.
